Curriculum

The Partnership for Public Service, in collaboration with the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE), offers a full-day interactive professional development training that equips you with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively advise students on the federal job search and application process. NACE, co-sponsor of this program, is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM). This program is eligible for 6.5 credit hours.

The program walks you through the nuts and bolts of the federal hiring process and offers tips from federal agencies and other experts in the field. Based on lessons from the Partnership’s Call to Serve Recruitment Initiative, a two-year pilot study of five college campuses and eleven federal agencies, you will also discuss and share ideas on effective approaches to building sustainable relationships with federal recruiters with staff and faculty from across the regional university community.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to navigate the federal process, including researching federal opportunities, deciphering federal applications and mastering KSA writing;
  • Identify best practices for building agency relationships by leveraging existing university contacts and strategically developing new long-term relationships; and
  • Discuss how to promote federal service in cost-effective and sustainable ways by involving the whole campus community and using on-campus stakeholders to promote federal service.

Who should attend?

We challenge you to use this opportunity to build champions around campus. Successful campuses in the past have sent a team of 3-4 representatives who are involved in a student's career decision-making process and represent various parts of campus.

Cross-campus teams include members from:

  • Career Services Advising, Employer Relations and Leadership
  • Internship Programs
  • Department-specific Career Services
  • Academic or Student Affairs
  • Faculty and Academic Advising

If more than four people would like to attend from your campus, please contact Brooke Bohnet, bbohnet@ourpublicservice.org

Cost of the Training

The cost of the full-day training is $150 per person which includes breakfast and lunch, 6.5 CEUs (learn more at www.nbcc.org), and materials and resources to take back to your campus to share.
